Lovers of midcentury design, listen up. Paddle8, an art and object auction marketplace, is bringing the distinct aesthetic of midcentury California design to you in a unique, inspiring way. Desert Living: Icons of Modern Design, an exhibition of design and art hosted at the Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs, opens this weekend, coinciding with Palm Springs Modernism Week, an annual pilgrimage of sorts for design enthusiasts.
The exhibition will be a 4,000-square-foot installation of art and design that embodies the unique desert-modern style. Set within the Ace Hotel’s modernist architecture and grounds, the exhibit will also include immersive vignettes designed by designed by Orlando Soria, West Coast Creative Director of Homepolish.
Look for quintessential California design icons like Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson, Frank Gehry, and more, as well as artwork from famed West Coast artists including David Hockney, John Baldessari, and, of course, Slim Aarons, known for immortalizing the opulent society culture in mid-century America.
The show will be open to the public on February 14 and 15. Online bidding launches today on Paddle8 and will run through February 19.
